One Pound a Week: Week Six

As promised, I haven't blogged on the subject -- though admittedly, I was a bit manic the first couple of weeks about the dieting thing. It's now week six and I'm 259 pounds -- down from 275 (16 pounds so far). My calculated BMI is now 32.2 (a drop of 2 points). Have I noticed a dramatic difference... hard to tell from day-to-day, but I definitely feel better and my clothes are looser... and I no longer look like I'm in my 8th month. I'm flying out to California on the 22nd -- so it will be interesting to see the reaction from folks who I haven't seen since January... It will also be a test for eating correctly on the road.

One Pound Per Week: Week 2

Last week I concentrated on lowering my total caloric intake by about 1000 calories per day from the 3400 calories projected by Nutrition Data's calculator. Weight as of this morning = 266 lbs. (-2 from 4/28). This week, I will continue to shed the calories and up the amount of walking I do -- taking the long-way around the floor when I need to get a print-out, etc., as well as Sunday outings to keep from being so sedentary. I also realized that I was being a bit too chatty on my calorie counting efforts -- nothing could be more boring than recounting how well you did by only eating so much... I guess it may have been the hunger adjustment talking, but even so... it's tedious. So other than blogging occasionally about the subject (Monday's mostly), I'll just stick to topics like the weather or politics.

One Pound a Week

I started (officially) my diet to lose 1 pound per week for the next 40 weeks. I may lose more, but I won't lose less -- and the pound per week will be my monthly average, as I know how things flucuate. According to Nutrition Data , for my height (6'3") / weight (275) / proportions (long torso), I have a BMI of 34.2 and a daily caloric need of around 3400 calories to maintain my current weight & BMI. My goal weight is 225, which would bring my BMI down to 28. (I know, it should be around 18-24, but let's get to 28 first!) Am I doing anything fancy? Nope. Just portion control. So calorie counting it is -- and adjusting the diet to be more oriented towards veggies, fruits and healthy choices. So far this week, I'm averaging a caloric intake of about 2000 - and I'm not feeling hungry (much!). The recipe portion of this blog will go dietary for a while as well. ;-)
