PostHeaderIcon Just Desserts: Classic Snickerdoodle Cookies

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour (not self-rising)
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400ºF.

Cream butter, shortening & 1 1/2 cups sugar in a large mixing bowl. Mix in eggs. Stir in flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar.

In a small bowl or pie plate, mix remaining sugar and cinnamon.

Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Roll balls in cinnamon-sugar mixture. Place about 2" apart on parchment lined, ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes.
